Department of Agriculture

Introduction

Department of Agriculture provides Agriculture education to the Bsc.Agriculture(Hons) students by educating them on the basic concepts of various fields of Agriculture such as Soil Science , Agronomy(study of field crops)Horticulture (study of fruits crops, vegetables and landscape and floriculture), water Management , livestock production (Dairy and Poultry farming) entomology(study of insects and pests of crops) Plant Pathology ( study of diseases of crops)Agriculture Extension , Agrometerology ( study of elements of weather and climate and weather forecasting). In addition to this knowledge on basic science courses viz Microbiology, Biology , Biochemistry , Math and Punjabi are also being imparted to the students.

The Department has highly qualified, well experienced dedicated faculty in the field of Agriculture and allied subjects .The well- equipped laboratories in the Department encourage the students to learn about practical concepts of Agriculture . Department has well established Agriculture Practical field where in the students get the practical knowledge on Agronomic and Cultural Practices of field crops and vegetables .

In order to get the students acquainted with the latest developments in Agriculture the department is carrying out various projects such as Vertical Gardening , Drip Irrigation , compost making (by using plant and vegetables waste) vermi composting and Poly Houses(protected cultivation) . Students are being taken to the Kisan Melas, Farmers fields, Commercial nurseries , Soil Testing labs ,District Agriculture Departments and Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVK) to have interaction with the Agriculture Scientists and farmers to improve their communication skill and practical knowledge of Agriculture .
